Rulani Mokwena Responds to Rivalry with Sead Ramovic After League Victory

Rulani Mokwena has addressed his ongoing rivalry with Sead Ramovic following MC Algers’ 2-1 comeback win over CR Belouizdad in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1. The South African coach extended his team’s unbeaten run while responding to questions about his relationship with the German counterpart.

The match on Monday marked the first league meeting between Mokwena and Ramovic in over a year. Their paths narrowly missed crossing in Morocco when Mokwena managed Wydad, and Ramovic was close to joining Raja Club Athletic before the deal fell through. Ramovic later joined Young Africans and moved to CR Belouizdad midway through last season.

The tension between the two managers dates back to a Nedbank Cup press conference during the 2023/24 season. Ramovic had called Mokwena “disrespectful,” sparking a rivalry that carried into subsequent encounters. Despite the history, Mokwena emphasized that the conflict has not been mutual.

“No, for a rivalry, you need two people with beef. Check the archives; you cannot quote me saying anything about Ramovic. Everything has been from one side, and if I am wrong, you can check the archives,” Mokwena said after the latest match, according to Pan African Football.

Mokwena focused on his team’s performance rather than personal issues. He highlighted his pride in leading MC Algers, praising the squad and their commitment. “I’m just proud of the team, I’m proud to be part of Mouloudia, I’m proud to be the coach of this group. I am proud to serve and help, and even if I can 5%, I am proud to make this contribution, it’s for the club and for the fans, and this is what makes me more happier,” he added.

The victory reinforced Mokwena’s tactical approach and his ability to manage high-pressure matches. It also underscored his focus on results and team development rather than off-field disputes. The win keeps MC Algers on a strong trajectory in the league and demonstrates Mokwena’s growing influence in Algerian football.

As both managers continue their careers in North Africa, attention will remain on their encounters, but Mokwena’s comments suggest he intends to keep the focus on performance, team success, and club objectives rather than personal rivalries.
