Rulani Mokwena Wants Mamelodi Sundowns to Defend Their Nedbank Cup Trophy! Masandawana take on The Natal Rich Boyz later today.

Mamelodi Sundowns host Richards Bay FC in the Nedbank Cup this evening. Head coach Rulani Mokwena has tasked their players with the mission of retaining their trophy.

The Brazilians claimed a treble last season, which included the MTN 8, the DSTV Premiership and the Nedbank Cup. They have been unable to retain the MTN 8 as they lost to eventual champions Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals.

With the DSTV Premiership all but wrapped up, the only other trophy they can defend is the Nedbank Cup.

“We want to always be a difficult team to play against, but also a team that respects all our opponents.” The head coach told the press today.

“We work very hard to give ourselves chances to win all matches we participate in. As a team, we have to do our utmost best to defend the trophy and do better than we did last year.

“Playing to win is what we are prepared to do and to be consistent.” He spoke.

These two sides met each other in early January in the DSTV Premiership. Sundowns ran out 2-0 winners away from home, thanks to goals from Cassius Mailula and Haashim Domingo.

“Richards Bay is a good opponent and fortunately we recently played them. We got an opportunity to watch their past games and their most recent encounter.

“They are an interesting and well-coached team that possesses good players and with all of that, it’s going to be a tough game for us.” Mokwena said to the press.
