SA Tourism have revealed that a deal to sponsor Spurs is imminent and have defended the decision. Acting CEO Themba Khumalo stated that their job description is to bring foreign investment into the country.
Yesterday widespread news indicated that the tourism department is intending to work with the Premier League giants. However, they later dismissed these reports, citing them as false.
Acting CEO Themba Khumalo has revealed that it is true, they want to work with Spurs.
“If we are going to be investing in the region of the numbers that I’ve just shown you, from a media exposure standpoint, R950 billion, R1.2 billion, if we are going to invest in that region, around R1 billion to get R88 billion.” Khumalo said to the press today.
“That’s the PNL that we’re looking at. That’s the profit and loss that we’re looking at it is a solid business case that has got a direct impact in terms of foreign business that comes into the country. [That] is then able to create jobs, sustains SMME’s and be able to return the dignity of a better life to our people around South Africa.
“So, let me look straight into camera and say this to all South Africans: the money that is invested in tourism is not the same money that’s required for energy, it is not the same money required for potholes. There are other companies that are dedicated and are given that mandate by legislation.
“Our legislated mandate is not about that. Our legislated mandate is about persuading international people to travel into the country and spend money in our economy and that is what we will stick to.” He practically vented.
