Siyabonga Ngezana Hints at Uncertain FCSB Future Ahead of AFCON

Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana has provided insight into his situation at Romanian club FCSB, leaving his future with the team uncertain as he prepares for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 28-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs defender remains in a fluid position, with discussions about his next move continuing in Romania. Recently, Ngezana faced scrutiny after FCSB management reportedly accused him of being big-headed for allegedly requesting a substitution during a league match.

Despite the controversy, Ngezana played a key role in Thursday’s Europa League clash against Feyenoord. He scored the opening goal, helping FCSB secure a thrilling 4-3 victory. However, he was substituted in the 65th minute, reportedly due to pre-existing medical concerns.

When asked after the match whether he would return to FCSB following national team duty, Ngezana gave a cautious response. “You never know! You can never know the future, especially now,” he told the media. He added that his current focus is on the Africa Cup of Nations and wished his teammates success in the remaining matches to reach the play-offs.

Ngezana is expected to join the Bafana Bafana camp in Pretoria as the team prepares for their friendly against Ghana. The squad will then travel to Morocco next week ahead of the biennial tournament, which runs from 21 December to 18 January.

The defender’s statements underline the uncertainty surrounding his club career while highlighting his commitment to national team duties. Observers will be watching closely for updates on his post-AFCON plans and whether he will remain at FCSB or seek a new opportunity in European football.
