Mamelodi Sundowns have been drawn in a difficult CAF Champions League group stage. Co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi insists that they just have to move on.

Masandawana have been drawn alongside Al Ahly, AL Hilal and Al Merrikh. All three sides are based in North Africa.

In Al Ahly, they face a side that has won the last two seasons of the CAF Champions League. Under the tutelage of former coach Pitso Mosimane.

The Egyptians also knocked out the Brazilians in the quarter-final stage of the competition last season. They are easily their biggest competition in the group stages.

This means that Mamelodi Sundowns will have to defeat AL Hilal and Al Merrikh, both based in Sudan, on each of their two matches with the teams. This will at least ensure that they make it out of the tough group.

“My impression of the draw will always be the most difficult to comprehend because one; once you get into the last-16 it’s always difficult to make a choice as to who you would want to play against.” He told the club media.

“All of the teams that are there are probably 75 if not 90% of them have won the Champions League before, so there’s no chance of avoiding anyone.

“You just have to soldier on, give it our best shot and understand that at this stage of the competition everybody who’s here is looking to win it. So just garner yourself up and focus on making sure your team is strong enough to be able to compete until the end.” He spoke.

Masandawana last won this competition in 2016, under Pitso Mosimane. Manqoba Mngqithi Doesn’t Want Mamelodi Sundowns to Complain About CAF Champions League Draw!
