Cape Town City Demand PSL Consistency as Gomora United Seek Venue Change

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City have called on the Premier Soccer League to enforce its regulations consistently after Gomora United requested a last-minute venue change ahead of their scheduled clash.

The match is set for 23 January at TUT Stadium, but Gomora United requested it be moved to Giyani Stadium. Cape Town City insist the fixture must remain at the original venue.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Cape Town City General Manager Andreas Christodoulou said Gomora failed to meet the league’s requirements for a venue change. He stressed that the request is outside the allowed timeframe.

Christodoulou noted that Cape Town City faced a similar situation when they could not use Athlone Stadium and were required to play at UWC University for their Nedbank Cup game against Upington City. He added that the pitch at TUT Stadium is fully suitable and the club has already incurred costs for bookings, hotels, and travel. Changing the venue now could negatively affect the team’s performance due to tight scheduling.

Gomora United chairman Joe Seanego acknowledged the situation is challenging and partly out of the club’s control. He explained that approvals and bookings following the holiday period make changes difficult. Seanego confirmed that Malamulele Stadium is not an option for this match and emphasized that the matter is logistical rather than political.

Cape Town City, who have been active in the January transfer window, are currently fourth in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 22 points from 14 games. The club is focused on maintaining league consistency while preparing for their upcoming fixtures.

The outcome of this dispute will test the PSL’s ability to apply its rules uniformly and ensure fairness for all clubs in the competition.
