Former PSL Coach Blames Tactical Changes for Kaizer Chiefs’ First Loss

Kaizer Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the Betway Premiership season, losing 3-1 to Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium. The result ended a five-game winning streak and left thousands of supporters disappointed.

Former PSL coach Mlungisi Ngubane identified tactical decisions as the main reason for Chiefs’ setback. He questioned Nasreddine Nabi’s choice to change a previously successful lineup. Ngubane noted that Aden McCarthy, previously injured, replaced a player who had performed well in the last match. He also highlighted issues with fullbacks Reeve Frosler and Paseka Mako, pointing out that Mako struggled in aerial duels and failed to prevent the first goal.

Ngubane added that Chiefs’ players appeared hesitant, suggesting they may be intimidated by Nabi’s presence. He argued that the team’s errors, rather than Sekhukhune’s strategy, were decisive in the defeat.

The former dribbling specialist also noted that space behind Chiefs’ wingbacks was exploited effectively by Sekhukhune, particularly by Bradley Grobler. He emphasized that line-ups should be adjusted based on the opposition rather than sticking to fixed positions.

Chiefs now face the challenge of regrouping and correcting defensive lapses ahead of their upcoming fixtures, as expectations remain high for them to compete for the league title and other domestic trophies.
