Kaizer Chiefs Update Broadcast Plans for CAF Confederation Cup Clash Against AS Simba

Kaizer Chiefs are in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, preparing for the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie against AS Simba on Saturday. The Soweto giants are two matches away from reaching the group phase, but they arrive on the back of a disappointing Carling Knockout exit at the hands of Stellenbosch.

Initially, Chiefs had announced that the match would be broadcast live on their YouTube channel and SABC Sport. However, the club has now confirmed a change in plans.

“Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash between AS Simba and Kaizer Chiefs in Lubumbashi will unfortunately not be broadcast live on TV,” the club stated. “The hosts were unable to secure broadcast rights with local broadcasters, which affects the availability of the feed. As the visiting team, Chiefs rely on the host broadcaster’s feed to relay the match to our partners in South Africa, as was done in the previous round in Angola. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, but this matter is beyond our control.”

Chiefs assured supporters that updates will be provided through official digital platforms, including Facebook, X (Twitter), and Instagram, throughout the match.

The team aims to bounce back from their recent domestic setback. The FIFA break allowed coach Hugo Broos and his staff to fine-tune tactics ahead of the clash in Lubumbashi. Chiefs will be targeting a strong result to ease the pressure for the second leg at home next week.

There is also anticipation over potential involvement of new signings. Khanyisa Mayo has played in the Premier Soccer League and Carling Knockout but has yet to feature in the Confederation Cup. Lebohang Maboe, who travelled with the squad, could also make his competitive debut for Chiefs against AS Simba.

As Chiefs prepare to face the Congolese side at TP Mazembe Stadium, supporters will have to follow live updates online, with hopes that the team can secure a solid advantage before hosting the return leg in South Africa.
