Manqoba Mngqithi More Impressed with First Leg Win Rather Than Second Leg Win! The Brazilians sealed passage into continental football for another season.
Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed Seychelles minnows La Passe 8-1 in the CAF Champions League yesterday. Co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi says the second leg was a much sloppier performance.
With the 15-1 aggregate win, Masandawana have sealed their spot in the group stages of the CAF Champions League for their umpteenth season in a row now. Goals came from Thapelo Morena, Haashim Domingo, Neo Maema, a Gift Motupa brace, a Cassius Mailula brace, and an own goal from the La Passe goalkeeper.
Despite this, Mngqithi was still not fully happy.
“I was more impressed with the first leg because we played with a lot of intensity from the beginning,” he told the media after the win.
“But the second leg of the first half was not one of my best. I was not very excited [because] we played a very monotonous game of trying to play the ball behind the defence even when those situations were not available thus, we lost a lot of balls and found ourselves having to deal with a transition and we even conceded a very stupid goal from transition.
“But the second half improved in leaps and bounds and again we started to show the right mentality.
“[We] forced them to make a lot of mistakes and even kept the right structure because [in] the first half I also felt that the structure was not proper. We were too anxious to try and find the space behind the defence.” He spoke.
The Brazilians will now finally return to domestic football. Manqoba Mngqithi More Impressed with First Leg Win Rather Than Second Leg Win!
