Maritzburg United Unhappy with Mamelodi Sundowns Fixture! The Team of Choice play Masandawana later today.
Maritzburg United visit Mamelodi Sundowns in their final DSTV Premiership match of the season. Chairman Farook Kadodia is unhappy with the timing of the encounter.
Traditionally, all final games of the season are played on the same day, at the same time. This is to avoid any team losing on purpose, to have results to their way.
However, Masandawana are in CAF Champions League football and have a semi-final date against Wydad Casablanca this Saturday, meaning that their fixture against Maritzburg United had to be pushed to an earlier date.
“We have been disappointed,” Kadodia spoke.
“We made a request to the League (PSL) for all matches to be played at the same time, the Gallants, Chippa and our game, but they refused. After our game, everything is left loose for whatever result to come, that’s our bit of concern.
“The whole idea of PSL is fair play and this is not fair play. Whatever reasons they gave us on why they can’t change that, is not acceptable.” He added.
Maritzburg United are last on the table, even though they have the same number of points as Marumo Gallants and Chippa United. They would have preferred to play their match at the same time as the other relegation candidates, to maintain fairness.
“It’s difficult because normally on the last day, you don’t want to talk about fixing games and all these things,” head coach Fadlu Davids also lamented.
“We trust that Golden Arrows will put their best line up, we trust Swallows to go for the win to get into the top eight.
“But let’s say for instance we lose and both teams play for a draw, we don’t expect that. If you play at the same time, these types of things don’t go through your mind,” he added.
