5.Khama Billiat

Khama Billiat

Downs success this season has without a doubt been aided by the Zimbabweans efficiency in front of goal. Scoring 10 goals for Sundowns this season has seen him attract interest from abroad in recent times. Billiat has assisted his teammates on 16 occasions throughout the campaign as well, more than any other player in the country. What has made Billiat such an asset to Sundowns is his ability to play in any attacking position. It remains to be seen how long the Zimbabwean remains in the country with European-based suitors said to be lining up after a magnificent 2016 at Chloorkop.

The SuperSport United striker can easily be regarded as one of, if not the best striker in the country and here is why. Over the course of the last couple of seasons, Brockie is one of the few attackers that have scored more than 10 goals in successive seasons. What makes the New Zealand star a special player is that he is a complete forward. With 15 goals and five assists to his name in the current campaign, Brockie has shown that he can play both as a number nine and in a system that requires a second striker.

3. Prince Nxumalo

Ajax Cape Town seemed to have found a gem in the former SuperSport United striker, as he has one of the best goals to games ratio’s in the Absa Premiership. Nxumalo has scored 11 goals in 18 appearances in the Absa Premiership and is third in line for the Lesley Manyathhela award, despite playing the least amount of games out of the top five goalscorers in the league.

2. Leonardo Castro

The Mamelodi Sundowns striker makes the cut on this list  purely because of how well he managed to adjust to the 100 mile an hour pace of the PSL. At the beginning of the campaign, coach Pitso Mosimane boldly proclaimed that Castro would become one of the best strikers in the land once he begins to settle. Mosimane’s fortune telling skills proved to be on point, as he leads the club’s goalscoring charts with 12 to his name this season.  His positioning inside the 18-yard area, coupled with his clinical finishing ability has made him one of the most feared frontmen in the PSL this season.

Mbsuma evoked nostalgia on a regular basis this season, rolling back the years to a time where he terrorised defences all around the country. ‘Ntofontofo’, as he is known in local football circles, is having his best campaign in the PSL since his 35-goal master class he put on in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs back in the 2004/05 season. Now 32, Mbesuma managed to amass a total of 14 goals this season, proving that he is more than just a one season wonder
